Adding and Removing Captions

Adding captions to your project in StarZero Agents is simple. Just ask in the chat, and StarZero Agents will walk you through choosing a style.

Adding Captions

The simplest way to add captions:

"Add captions"

"I want captions on this video"

"Add subtitles to my project"

When you ask for captions, StarZero Agents opens the caption preset gallery — a visual showcase of all available caption styles. Each preset plays a live animated preview so you can see exactly how it looks before committing.

Browse the gallery, click a preset to select it, and hit the Use button to apply it. That's it — captions are added to your project and will appear across your entire timeline.

You can also browse and apply caption presets directly from the editor without using the chat. Click the Captions icon in the Editor Side Panel to open a built-in caption style picker. It shows the same animated previews and style variants, letting you quickly try different looks while you edit.

If you already know which style you want, you can ask directly:

"Add the Highlight caption style"

"Use karaoke-style captions"

Choosing a Style Variant

Many caption presets come with multiple style variants — different color schemes, animation speeds, or visual treatments within the same overall style. In the gallery, use the dropdown on any preset card to switch between its variants and preview each one.

When you select a variant and click Use, that specific look is applied to your project.

Describing Customizations

After selecting a preset in the gallery, a text field appears where you can describe any changes you'd like — for example, "use blue tones," "make it more subtle," or "larger text." StarZero Agents applies your instructions on top of the chosen preset style.

Using a Custom Font

Want your captions to match your brand font? In the caption gallery, expand the Options section and paste a font URL:

• A Google Fonts page URL (e.g., https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Henny+Penny)
• A direct link to a font file

All the preset previews will update to show your chosen font in real time, making it easy to see how each style looks with your typeface before you decide.

Removing Captions

When you don't need captions anymore, you have two options:

From the chat:

"Remove captions"

"Delete the caption overlay"

From the editor: Open the Captions panel in the Editor Side Panel and click the Remove captions button at the bottom. This button appears whenever a caption style is active.

Either method removes the caption preset overlay from your project.

Switching Caption Styles

Only one caption preset can be active at a time. To switch to a different style:

"Change the caption style"

"Show me the caption presets again"

StarZero Agents will remove the current caption preset and show the gallery so you can pick a new one.

Automatic Generation from Transcripts

When you add a caption preset, StarZero Agents automatically populates it with caption words from the transcripts of your video clips. There's no extra step needed — if your clips have been transcribed (which happens automatically when they're added to your library), captions are ready to go.

Captions from Text-to-Speech Narration

Captions also work with AI-generated narration. When you add a TTS voice clip to your timeline, its captions are perfectly synchronized — your narration gets the same accurate, word-by-word captioning as your video clips, with no manual timing required.

Captions from Separated Vocals

If you've used audio separation to split a clip's audio into vocals and background, captions will automatically be generated from the separated vocals track as well. This means you can separate audio, keep only the vocals, and still get accurate captions automatically.

Captions Stay in Sync

Here's something that saves a lot of time: captions automatically regenerate when your project changes. If you:

• Add a new clip to the timeline
• Remove a clip
• Rearrange the order of clips
• Change in or out points on a clip
• Split or merge clips
• Mute or unmute a clip's audio (change its volume)
• Add or remove audio clips
• Undo or redo a change

...the captions will update to reflect the new structure. You never have to manually re-sync or re-generate them.

Excluding Clips from Captions

Sometimes a clip already has captions or text burned into the video itself. In that case, you don't want StarZero Agents to generate additional captions on top of it — they'd overlap and look messy.

You can tell StarZero Agents to skip caption generation for specific clips:

"Omit the second clip from captions"

"Don't generate captions for clip 3 — it already has burned-in subtitles"

"Exclude the intro clip from captions"

When a clip is excluded from captions, any caption words that fall within that clip's time range are removed. The rest of your project's captions continue as normal.

To re-enable captions for a clip you previously excluded:

"Include the second clip in captions again"
