Fixing Transcript Words

Auto-generated transcripts do a great job most of the time, but they're not perfect. Names, brand terms, acronyms, and technical words are common trouble spots. When a transcript gets something wrong, it shows up wrong in your captions too. The good news is that fixing these mistakes in StarZero Agents is quick and easy — either by telling the AI what to change, or by editing words directly in the Transcript Panel.

The Transcript Panel

The Transcript Panel gives you a visual, hands-on way to review and edit every word in your project's transcript. Open it by clicking the Transcript icon in the Editor Side Panel on the left edge of the editor.

Inside the panel you'll see:

• All words in your transcript laid out in readable paragraphs, grouped by speaker
• Timestamps showing when each segment begins
• Live playback highlighting — the currently playing word is highlighted as your video plays, and the panel auto-scrolls to keep it in view

Selecting Words

Click any word to select it. To select a range of words, either:

• Drag across multiple words
• Shift + click a second word to select everything between it and your first selection

A floating toolbar appears above your selection showing the timestamp and available actions.

Editing Words

• Double-click a word to edit it inline — type the correction and press Enter (or click the checkmark button) to apply
• Click the X button or press Escape to discard the edit
• Select multiple words (up to 5) and click the edit button in the floating toolbar to edit them together

When editing, the replacement must be a similar length to the original — you can't replace one word with an entire sentence. For a single word, the replacement can be 1 to 5 words. For multi-word selections, the replacement can be within 3 words of the original count. If your replacement is too short or too long, you'll see a validation message explaining the allowed range.

Edits are applied instantly and update your captions automatically.

If the transcript changes while you have an edit open — for example, because the AI is processing another request that affects the same words — the edit is automatically discarded and you'll see a notification. This prevents accidental overwrites when the underlying words have shifted.

Deleting Words

Select the words you want to remove and click the delete button in the floating toolbar. This removes those words from both the transcript and timeline — the corresponding audio segment is cut from your project.

If a deletion or replacement can't be applied (for example, if the agent is busy processing another request), you'll see an error message. You can dismiss it and try again once the current operation finishes.

Fixing via Chat

You can also tell StarZero Agents what's wrong and what it should be. Give an approximate timestamp so it knows where to look:

"Fix the caption around 1:23 from 'use effect' to 'useEffect'"

"At about 0:45, change 'anna listics' to 'analytics'"

"Around the 3-minute mark, the caption says 'john' but it should be 'Jon'"

You don't need to be exact with the timestamp — an approximate time is enough for StarZero Agents to find the right word and make the correction precisely.

Fixing a Range of Words

Sometimes a whole phrase needs correcting. You can specify a time range:

"In the segment around 2:10 to 2:14, change 'battery life' to 'Battery Life'"

"Between 1:00 and 1:05, fix 'eye oh ess' to 'iOS'"

This is helpful when the transcript has broken a single word into multiple words, or when you need to fix capitalization across a phrase.

Find and Replace

When the same mistake appears throughout a transcript — a misspelled name, a brand term the transcription consistently gets wrong — you can fix every occurrence at once:

"Replace every 'Sarah' with 'Sara' in the transcript"

"Change all instances of 'colour' to 'color'"

StarZero Agents will show you a preview of all the replacements it's about to make before applying them, so you can confirm the changes look right.

A few things to know about find and replace:

• Matches regardless of capitalization — asking to replace "john" will also catch "John" and "JOHN"
• Keeps sentence flow natural — if a word appears at the start of a sentence, the replacement stays capitalized to match (e.g. "Colour" becomes "Color")
• Preserves punctuation — commas, periods, and other punctuation around matched words stay in place
• Skips words that are already correct — if some instances already have the right spelling, they won't be touched

You can also limit the replacement to a specific section of the transcript:

"Replace 'app' with 'application' between 1:00 and 3:00"

Renaming Speakers

When your video has multiple speakers, the transcript identifies them with labels like "Speaker 1" and "Speaker 2." You can rename these to the actual speaker names:

"Rename Speaker 1 to Sarah"

"Change Speaker 2 to Dr. Martinez"

The new name replaces the old label everywhere — in the transcript, in captions, and in the Transcript Panel.

Library Glossary

If your library has a glossary — a list of domain-specific terms like brand names, product names, or technical vocabulary — StarZero Agents will automatically use it when fixing transcripts. Any words that sound like or are misspelled versions of glossary terms will be corrected to the right spelling without you having to ask.

This is especially helpful for content with recurring terminology that auto-transcription consistently gets wrong. Instead of fixing the same words over and over, the glossary teaches StarZero Agents the correct spelling once and it applies everywhere.

Common Things That Need Fixing

Here are the types of words that auto-transcription most often gets wrong:

• People's names — "sarah" instead of "Sara," "mike" instead of "Mic"
• Brand names — "chat gee pee tee" instead of "ChatGPT"
• Product names — "eye phone" instead of "iPhone"
• Technical terms — "kubernetes" transcribed as "kuber netties"
• Acronyms — "SaaS" showing up as "sass" or "S A A S"
• Unusual spellings — Any word that doesn't follow standard pronunciation rules

Fixes Are Permanent

Once you fix a word, the correction sticks. It carries forward into:

• Your current captions
• Any future caption regeneration (when you rearrange clips, for example)
• Your final rendered video

You won't have to fix the same word again, even if you make other changes to your project.

Tips for Efficient Fixing

Use the Transcript Panel for bulk edits. Open the panel, scan through the transcript visually, and fix words directly. It's faster than describing each fix in chat.

Preview your captions first. Watch through your project with captions enabled and note any timestamps where words are wrong. Then fix them all in a batch — either through the panel or in chat.

Be specific about what you hear versus what you see. When using chat to fix words, tell StarZero Agents both the incorrect text that's currently showing and what it should say. This makes the fix precise.

Don't worry about perfect timestamps. "Around 1:23" or "near the 2-minute mark" is plenty. StarZero Agents will match your correction to the right word automatically.

Fix it once, forget about it. Unlike some captioning tools where edits can get overwritten, fixes in StarZero Agents are permanent. Make the correction and move on with confidence.
