Understanding the Interface

StarZero Agents's interface is designed to feel simple and familiar. At its core, it's a chat window with powerful side panels for searching your library and editing your video. Here's a tour of everything you'll see on screen.

The Chat Area

The chat area is the center of your StarZero Agents experience. This is where you talk to the AI assistant and where all results appear.

Your messages appear on one side, and StarZero Agents's responses appear on the other, just like any messaging app. But StarZero Agents's responses can include much more than text:

• Clip previews -- short, looping video clips from your library with clickable labels
• Analysis results -- summaries, theme breakdowns, and content insights
• Project updates -- confirmation of changes made to your video project
• Rendered videos -- playable video previews and download links for final renders
• Clarifying questions -- interactive question cards with clickable options when StarZero Agents needs more information before proceeding

Scroll up at any time to review earlier parts of your conversation.

Message Actions

Every message in your conversation has a row of action buttons that appear below it. These give you quick access to common actions without typing anything.

On your messages:

• Retry — Deletes everything after this message and runs the AI again from this point. Useful when you want a fresh take on the same request.
• Edit — Opens the message in an inline editor so you can change what you said. Saving the edit replaces the message and everything after it, then runs the AI again with your updated text. Press Ctrl+Enter (or Cmd+Enter on Mac) to save quickly, or Escape to cancel.
• Copy — Copies your message text to the clipboard.

On AI responses:

• Copy — Copies the AI's response text to the clipboard. When the response spans multiple messages (for example, when the AI used tools between text replies), the copy captures the full response with tool runs collapsed.
• Retry — Deletes this response and runs the AI again from your last message, giving you a different result.
• Thumbs up / Thumbs down — Rate the response. Clicking either thumb opens a short feedback form where you can optionally select an issue type and add details. This helps improve StarZero Agents over time. Submitting feedback shares the current conversation for review.

A timestamp on each message shows when it was sent — hover over it for the full date and time.

Welcome Screen

When you open a new chat, you'll see a personalized greeting that changes based on the time of day, along with two ways to get started: the capabilities carousel and the recipe picker.

What Can I Do

The capabilities carousel gives you a quick visual overview of everything StarZero Agents can help with. It cycles through cards covering:

• Video Editing & Compilation — compilations, cutdowns, reframing, multi-project editing
• Search & Discovery — visual, dialogue, topic, and narrative search across your library
• Analysis & Insights — summaries, comparisons, data extraction, and structured output
• Captions, Text & Overlays — auto-captions, text overlays, picture-in-picture, split-screen
• Audio, Music & Voiceover — background music, voiceover, sound effects, vocal separation
• AI-Generated Media — images, video clips, SVG graphics from text descriptions
• Podcast Multi-Cam Editing — automatic speaker-based intercutting for podcasts and interviews
• Transcript & Caption Fixing — word-level transcript corrections that propagate everywhere

Click any card to expand it and read more. The carousel auto-rotates and pauses when you interact with it.

Recipe Picker

Below the carousel, the recipe picker shows all your available recipes — both the built-in ones and any custom recipes you've created.

You can:

• Browse recipes to see what's available
• Search by typing keywords to filter the list
• Select a recipe to see its details, optionally choose which content to work with, and hit Go to start

This is the fastest way to kick off a structured workflow. If you'd rather start from scratch, just type your own request in the message box instead.

The Sidebar

The sidebar is the collapsible panel on the left side of the screen. It gives you quick access to navigation and chat management. Here's what you'll find:

What's New Dot

A small dot appears on the StarZero Agents logo in the sidebar whenever there's a new changelog entry you haven't seen yet. Click it to open a popover with the latest updates. Once you close the popover, the dot disappears until the next update.

Chats

Click Chats to open the chat browsing page. From here you can search through all your past conversations by typing keywords, and click any result to jump straight into that chat. The search matches against chat titles, making it easy to find a specific conversation even if you have hundreds of chats.

New Chat

Click this to start a fresh conversation. Each new chat begins with a clean slate -- new library selection, new project, new conversation.

Podcast Clipper (Beta)

Opens a dedicated podcast clipping experience designed specifically for turning podcast episodes into short, shareable clips. When uploading or importing a podcast episode, you'll need to confirm that you have the rights to the content before proceeding.

Customize

Opens the Customize page where you can configure AI model preferences, custom rules, skills, external plugins, and your recipe cookbook.

Chat History

Below the navigation buttons, the sidebar shows a list of your previous chats, organized into two collapsible sections:

• Starred — Chats you've pinned appear at the top for easy access
• Recents — Your remaining chats listed by most recent activity

Click a section header to collapse or expand it. Your collapse preferences are saved, so the sidebar looks the same way next time you open the app. When you star a chat, the Starred section automatically expands so you can see it right away.

Each entry shows the chat title. You can:

• Star important chats to pin them to the Starred section
• Rename a chat to give it a more descriptive title
• Clone a chat to create a copy as a starting point for a new conversation
• Delete chats you no longer need

You can also clone the current chat directly from the chat header — click the split icon next to the chat title to open the clone in a new tab. This is handy when you want to try a different direction without losing your current conversation.

The Files Panel

The Files panel gives you a quick overview of every file created during your current chat — audio clips, generated images, SVGs, videos, data files, fonts, and more. It's a handy way to find, play, download, or copy the URL of anything StarZero Agents has produced.

Opening the Files Panel

You can open the Files panel in several ways:

• Click the file icon in the chat header
• Click the file icon that appears on individual artifacts in chat messages (e.g., on audio clips or analysis results)

Browsing and Filtering

Files are listed with their name, type badge, and a description (if available). Use the type filter dropdown at the top to narrow the list — for example, show only Audio, Generated Voices, or SVG animations.

What You Can Do

Each file in the panel has quick-action buttons:

• Play / Stop — For audio files, play them directly in the panel without leaving the chat
• Copy URL — Copy the file's URL to your clipboard, useful for referencing it in follow-up messages
• Download — Download the file to your computer with the correct filename and extension

Audio Playback

Audio artifacts (music, sound effects, generated voices, extracted audio) can be played inline. A visual glow effect highlights the currently playing file, and only one audio file plays at a time — clicking play on a different file stops the current one.

The Search Panel

The search panel is a side panel dedicated to finding clips in your library quickly. It offers three search modes:

Visual Search

Search by what you see on screen. Describe a scene, object, action, or setting, and StarZero Agents finds clips that match visually.

Example: "sunset over water" or "person writing on whiteboard"

Transcript Search

Search by what was said. Enter words or phrases, and StarZero Agents finds moments where that dialogue appears.

Example: "quarterly revenue" or "thank you for joining us"

Unified Search

Search by both visuals and dialogue at the same time. This is the broadest search and is great when you're not sure whether what you're looking for was shown on screen or spoken aloud.

Example: "product launch announcement"

Results appear as looping video clips. Click any result to preview it, and select the clips you want to attach to your next message. Selected clips appear as pending attachments in the message input area, giving you a clear preview of what you're about to send before you hit Enter.

The Video Editor

The video editor sits alongside the chat in a resizable split layout. You can drag the divider between the chat and editor to give either panel more room, depending on whether you're focused on conversation or visual editing.

Each panel has a collapse button on its edge. Click it to hide a panel entirely and give the other one full width. When the editor is collapsed, an "Open editor" button appears in the chat header. When the chat is collapsed, an "Open chat" button appears in the video player. This makes it easy to switch focus without losing your place.

Preview Player

At the top of the editor, a video player shows you what your project looks like right now. Hit play to watch your assembled clips, captions, and overlays in real time.

Timeline

Below the player is the timeline -- a visual representation of your entire project from start to finish.

• Zoom in and out using Ctrl + scroll (or Cmd + scroll on Mac) to see more or less detail
• On touch devices, pinch to zoom with two fingers directly on the timeline
• Scrub by clicking or dragging along the timeline to jump to any point in your project

Video Track

The video track shows your clips laid out in sequence. Here's what you can do:

• Drag clips to reorder them
• Trim clips by dragging the handles on either end to shorten or extend them
• See clip labels so you know which source video each clip came from

Audio Track

Below the video track, the audio track shows any separate audio clips (music, voiceover, sound effects) you've added.

• Drag audio clips to position them at the right point in your timeline
• Adjust volume for each audio clip individually

Editor Side Panel

On the left edge of the editor, you'll find the Editor Side Panel — a vertical icon bar that gives you quick access to editing tools. Click any icon to open its panel as a slide-out overlay next to the editor:

• Transcript — Opens the Transcript Panel, where you can view and edit every word in your project's transcript. See Fixing Transcript Words for details.
• Captions — Opens the Captions Panel, where you can browse caption presets with live animated previews, compare style variants, and apply a caption style to your project with a single click. When a caption style is active, a Remove captions button appears at the bottom of the panel so you can quickly strip captions without using the chat. This is the fastest way to pick, switch, and remove caption styles while you're editing.
• Clip — Opens the Clip Panel, which shows controls for the currently selected clip. The panel adapts to the clip type — see Clip Controls for details.
• Split Screen — Opens the Split Screen Panel, where you can create and edit split-screen layouts on the clip under the playhead. See Split-Screen Layouts for details.

Click the same icon again to close the panel. Only one panel can be open at a time.

Controls

At the bottom of the editor, you'll find playback and project controls:

• Play / Pause -- preview your project
• Undo / Redo -- step backward or forward through your recent changes
• Export / Render -- launch a render of your project
• Project file selector -- if you have multiple project configurations, switch between them here

Chat Settings

The gear icon next to the message input opens the Chat Settings popover — a quick-access panel for monitoring your session and adjusting settings without leaving the conversation.

Context Window

A segmented bar shows how much of the AI's context window you've used. The bar is split into two zones: the effective range where the AI performs best, and the extended range where it can still read your conversation but may start to lose focus on earlier details. When you cross into the extended zone, a warning appears so you know it might be time to start a new chat or use the /compact command.

Credits Usage

Below the context bar, a credits usage bar shows how much of your available credit pool has been used. The bar changes color as usage increases — it turns amber when you've used most of your credits, and red when you're nearly out. Click the info icon to see a breakdown of your individual credit allocations and when they expire.

Session Stats

Four tiles show your current session at a glance: credits used this session, credits available in your account, input and output token counts, and the number of messages and tool calls. Expand the Credits breakdown section to see a pie chart of where your credits went — conversation, search, analysis, editing, rendering, and more.

Model and Tool Approval

You can switch the AI model and toggle tool approval mode directly from the popover — no need to visit the Customize page. See Agent Settings for details on what these controls do.

On mobile, the popover opens as a bottom sheet that you can swipe away.

Attaching Files

You can attach files directly to your chat messages. This is useful when you want StarZero Agents to reference a document, an image, audio, or any other file in its response.

The "+" Menu

Click the + button next to the message input to open the Add menu. From here you can:

• Add file — Upload a file from your device (up to 25 MB per file). Supported file types include images (PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF), PDFs, CSVs, JSON, audio (MP3, WAV, OGG, AAC), video (MP4, WebM, MOV), fonts (TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2), and plain text or Markdown files. Uploaded files can be reused across conversations but are not ingested into your content library.
• Recent files — Quickly re-attach a file you've used before without re-uploading it. Your recent files appear at the top, and you can drill into a By type submenu to browse by category (images, audio, video, data, etc.).
• Skills — Browse and insert your saved skills as mentions. Selecting a skill adds a /{skill-name} mention to your message. You can also jump straight to the skills settings page to create new ones.
• Plugins — See your connected MCP plugins and their tools at a glance, or navigate to settings to add new ones.

On mobile, the menu opens as a full-screen sheet with large tap targets and quick-access cards for Camera, Photos, and Files at the top.

Pasting Files

You can also paste files directly from your clipboard (Ctrl+V / Cmd+V). Copy an image, PDF, or other supported file from any app, then paste it into the message input. The file appears as a pending attachment with a preview card showing its name and type.

Drag & Drop

The fastest way to attach files is to drag them straight from your computer onto the chat. As soon as you drag a file over the window, a drop overlay appears with icons for each supported file category (images, audio, video, PDFs, and documents), the accepted file types, and the maximum file size (25 MB per file). Drop the file anywhere and it's uploaded as a pending attachment, just like files added through the + menu.

You can drop several files at once. If any of them aren't a supported type, they're skipped and a notification tells you which ones, while the rest upload normally.

CSV and JSON Files

When you upload a CSV file, StarZero Agents automatically parses it into structured data. The AI can then work with the rows and columns directly — for example, summarizing the data, extracting insights, or using it to drive video content. You'll see the row and column count displayed on the attachment card.

JSON files work the same way: the file is parsed into structured data on upload, so the AI can read and work with its contents directly — whether it's a list of items, a configuration, or exported data from another tool.

PDF Support

Uploaded PDFs are sent directly to the AI, so it can read and reference the document's contents in its response. This is useful for things like pulling quotes from a script, summarizing a brief, or following instructions in a creative document.

Managing Attachments

Before you send your message, you can review everything that's attached — files and search clips all appear together in the message input area. Each attachment shows a preview card with the file name, type icon, and (for images) a thumbnail. Remove any attachment by clicking the X button on its card.

When you send the message, all pending attachments are included automatically and the attachment area clears for your next message.

Draft Persistence

Your unsent message is automatically saved as you type. If the chat session reconnects — for example, due to a temporary network interruption — your draft message, selected library, selected content, and attached resources are all restored so you can pick up right where you left off.

@Mentions

When typing in the chat, you can reference specific media from your library using @mentions.

Type the @ symbol and start typing a video name. An autocomplete dropdown will appear with matching videos from your library. Select one to include it as a reference in your message.

This is especially useful when you want to point StarZero Agents at a specific video:

"Find the best quotes from @Client-Interview-March-2025"

Media Reference Hints

If you type a filename or URL that matches media in your library without using an @mention, StarZero Agents will show a hint banner above the message input suggesting you add a proper reference. This helps the AI understand exactly which file you mean. Each suggestion has a + button to insert the @mention directly, or you can dismiss the banner if you don't need it.

Slash Commands

StarZero Agents supports a couple of special shortcuts you can type in the chat:

/task

Type /task followed by a description to kick off an autonomous multi-step task. StarZero Agents will plan and execute multiple actions on its own without needing you to guide each step.

Example: /task Find the top 5 highlights from today's webinar, add them to a project with captions, and render a vertical preview

/search

Type /search followed by a query to run a quick library search directly from the chat.

Example: /search product demo clips

Notifications

StarZero Agents sends browser notifications to keep you in the loop when you're away from the tab:

• Processing complete -- when a render or long-running task finishes
• Tool approval needed -- when StarZero Agents needs your permission before taking an action

Make sure to allow notifications in your browser when prompted so you don't miss anything.

Mobile

StarZero Agents works on mobile devices too. The interface adapts to smaller screens:

• The sidebar becomes a swipeable drawer — swipe from the left edge to open it, or tap the menu icon
• The chat and editor panels switch between full-screen views with a navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. Each panel shows its icon and label (Chat, Search, Editor), so you can tap to switch between them instantly
• Swipe left or right on the main area to move between panels — the same gesture as flipping between pages
• Pinch to zoom on the timeline to adjust your view — the desktop zoom slider is replaced by touch-friendly pinch gestures
• Core features like searching, chatting, and reviewing clips all work on mobile

For the best editing experience with the timeline and video editor, a desktop or tablet screen is recommended.
