A plain-language guide to the terms you'll encounter in StarZero Agents.

Video Concepts

Shot A continuous piece of video with no cuts. Think of it as pressing record, filming, and then stopping. A single shot might last a few seconds or several minutes.

Scene A group of related shots that belong together — same place, same time, or same topic. Scenes are the building blocks of any story. A scene might include several shots of the same conversation from different angles.

Clip A custom selection from any video with a specific start and end time. Clips are your editing building blocks. You choose where a clip starts and ends, and then arrange clips on your timeline.

Content / Content Item A single video file in your library. When you upload a video to StarZero Agents, it becomes a content item that you can search, analyze, and edit from.

Library Your collection of uploaded video content that StarZero Agents can work with. Everything in your library is available for searching, analysis, and editing.

Editing Terms

Timeline The visual representation of your video project showing all clips in order. Think of it as the arrangement of your clips from beginning to end — the sequence your audience will watch.

In Point / Out Point Where a clip starts (in point) and ends (out point) within the source video. If your source video is 10 minutes long and you select a clip from 2:30 to 2:45, the in point is 2:30 and the out point is 2:45.

Project The video you're building. A project contains your arranged clips, captions, text overlays, and audio — everything that makes up your final video.

Render The process of compiling your project into a final video file. StarZero Agents takes all your clips, captions, text, and settings and produces a single playable video.

Keyframe A point in time where you define specific visual properties like position or zoom level. StarZero Agents animates smoothly between keyframes, creating panning or zooming effects across a clip.

Aspect Ratios and Framing

Aspect Ratio The width-to-height proportion of a video. Common ratios include 16:9 (widescreen, YouTube), 9:16 (portrait, TikTok/Reels/Shorts), and 1:1 (square, Instagram feed).

Reframing The process of adapting video from one aspect ratio to another. When you take a widescreen video and render it for portrait, parts of the image need to be cropped. Reframing adjusts which part stays visible.

Focus Hint A description of what to keep centered when reframing for a different aspect ratio. If you're rendering a widescreen interview in portrait, a focus hint like "the speaker's face" tells StarZero Agents to keep the speaker visible rather than cropping them out.

Timecode A timestamp embedded in video files by the camera during recording, typically displayed as hours:minutes:seconds:frames (e.g. 01:23:45:10). Timecodes are especially useful for multicam shoots — when multiple cameras share the same timecode reference, StarZero Agents can read these values and automatically synchronize the footage.

Text and Captions

Caption Auto-generated subtitles created from the spoken dialogue in your video. Captions appear on screen as text synchronized with the audio.

Text Overlay Custom text you add to the video for titles, labels, or callouts. Text overlays are separate from captions — you write the text yourself, choose when it appears, and pick a visual style.

Workflow and Production

Recipe A step-by-step template for a common video production task, like creating a podcast cutdown or social media clip. Recipes guide the AI through a proven process.

Workflow An automated pipeline that chains multiple steps together for batch processing. Workflows let you create content at scale without manually guiding each step.

Extract A section of content identified as a candidate for a cutdown. An extract is typically longer than the final output — it gets trimmed down to the target duration.

Cutdown A short video created by extracting and trimming the best moments from longer content. A 60-second cutdown from a 45-minute podcast is a common example.

System Terms

Artifact A piece of data or a file produced by StarZero Agents during analysis — for example, a spreadsheet, a JSON dataset, or an HTML report. Artifacts are saved persistently, so they survive session restarts. Each artifact has a unique key you can copy and paste into other chats to reuse the data without re-running the analysis.

Agent A specialized AI assistant within StarZero Agents that handles specific tasks. Different agents handle search, analysis, editing, critique, and other responsibilities. You don't need to interact with agents directly — StarZero Agents routes your requests to the right one automatically.

Credits Your account balance consumed by AI operations and high-quality renders. Low-quality previews are free. Credits can be added at app.starzero.ai.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) A standard for connecting external tools and plugins to AI systems. If you use MCP-compatible tools, they can integrate with StarZero Agents's AI capabilities.
