Adding and Arranging Clips

Building a video project starts with getting clips onto your timeline. You can add clips through conversation, directly from search results, or by specifying exact timestamps.

Adding Clips from Search Results

After searching your library, you can add any of the results to your project:

• "Add these clips to my project"
• "Add the first and third clips from those results"
• "Add the clip showing the product demo"

StarZero Agents will place the clips on your timeline and confirm what was added.

Adding Clips by Timestamp

If you know exactly which part of a video you want, specify the time range:

• "Add a clip from the keynote video, from 10.2s to 14.8s"
• "Add the section from 2:30 to 3:45 of the interview"
• "Grab the first 15 seconds of the intro video"

You can be as precise as you need -- down to fractions of a second.

Adding Clips with Context

You can also describe what you want and let StarZero Agents find the right moments:

• "Add a clip from the keynote showing the product demo, then add the interview segment where they discuss pricing"
• "Find the part where she talks about growth metrics and add it"
• "Add the best 10-second highlight from each video"

How Clips Are Placed

By default, clips are added to the end of your timeline in the order you request them. If you want a specific arrangement, just say so:

• "Add these 5 clips in this order: intro, demo, interview, testimonial, outro"
• "Put this clip at the beginning of the project"
• "Insert this clip between the second and third clips"

Smart Boundary Detection

When StarZero Agents adds a clip, it checks for sentence boundaries and shot boundaries to make sure the clip starts and ends cleanly:

• Sentence boundaries prevent clips from cutting off mid-word or mid-sentence
• Shot boundaries prevent brief flashes of an unrelated shot appearing at the start or end of a clip

If the exact timestamps you requested would create an awkward cut, StarZero Agents may suggest a small adjustment -- like shifting the start point by a fraction of a second to avoid cutting someone off mid-word.

Adding Clips from External URLs

You can add video or image clips from external URLs, even if they aren't in your library. Just paste the URL and specify the time range you want:

• "Add a clip from this video: https://example.com/interview.mp4, from 1:00 to 1:30"
• "Use this image as a clip for 4 seconds: https://example.com/photo.jpg"
• "Add the first 10 seconds of https://example.com/footage.mp4"

When you provide an external URL, the media is saved as a file in your chat and stays available for the rest of your session -- even if the original URL goes down later. You can see saved files in the Files panel.

The clip arrives ready to use, with the correct dimensions and duration. Both video files and still images are supported -- images are treated as clips with a fixed duration you specify.

URL-based clips work just like library clips on the timeline: you can trim them, reposition them, adjust their audio, and add keyframe animations. They're also included when you render your video or export to Premiere Pro.

Limitations compared to library clips: Because URL-based clips aren't part of your library, some features that rely on analyzed source data aren't available:

• No transcript or captions -- StarZero Agents can't generate captions from URL clips or use sentence boundaries to refine cut points.
• No smart boundary detection -- the automatic sentence and shot boundary adjustments don't apply; your specified in/out points are used exactly as given.
• No clip merging -- adjacent URL clips won't be auto-merged the way consecutive library clips can be.
• No visual reframing -- the "focus on this person" or auto-reframe feature requires library content and isn't available for URL clips.
• No audio separation -- you can't split vocals and background audio on URL clips.
• No search -- you can't search within a URL clip for specific moments or topics.

Adding SVG Graphics as Clips

You can place SVG graphics directly on the video track. This is useful for title cards, animated intros, chapter dividers, or any fullscreen graphic that should replace the video for a period of time. Specify how long the graphic should appear:

• "Add that animated title card to the timeline for 5 seconds"
• "Insert the chapter graphic at the beginning, lasting 3 seconds"
• "Add this SVG to the timeline: https://example.com/intro.svg"

SVG clips can also be added from a URL if you have an existing SVG file hosted online. See SVG Graphics for more on generating and using SVG graphics.

Adding AI-Generated Clips

StarZero Agents can generate original images and videos using AI, and you can add them directly to your timeline:

• "Generate an image of a sunset and add it as a 5-second clip"
• "Generate a cinematic video of waves crashing and add it to the project"
• "Create a video starting from this image and insert it after the intro"

Generated images become still clips with a duration you specify. Generated videos are 8-second clips with AI-generated audio. Both work just like regular clips on the timeline — you can trim, reposition, and animate them.

Multicam Synchronization

If you shot the same event with multiple cameras, StarZero Agents can read the embedded timecodes from your source files and use them to synchronize your footage automatically:

• "Sync these three camera angles based on their timecodes"
• "Align the multicam footage from the concert shoot"
• "Read the timecodes from all my interview clips and line them up"

Each camera records a timecode when it starts filming. StarZero Agents reads these timecodes from the original media files, calculates the offset between cameras, and aligns the clips so they play back in sync — even if the cameras started recording at slightly different times.

This works best when your cameras were set to the same timecode source (jam-synced) before the shoot. If a file doesn't have an embedded timecode, StarZero Agents will let you know so you can align it manually.

Managing Clip Audio

Each clip can have its audio enabled or disabled independently:

• "Enable audio on the first two clips and disable it on the third"
• "Mute all clips except the interview"
• "Turn off the audio on the b-roll clips"

This is useful when you want to use the visuals from one clip but the audio from another, or when you plan to add background music or narration instead.

Practical Example

Here's how a typical clip-adding conversation might look:

You: "Search for clips where the CEO discusses the product roadmap"

StarZero Agents: Shows search results with timestamps and previews

You: "Add the second and fourth results to my project"

StarZero Agents: Adds clips to the timeline "Added 2 clips to your project. The second clip was adjusted by 0.12s at the start to avoid cutting mid-sentence."

You: "Now add a 5-second clip from the intro video, starting at 3s"

StarZero Agents: Adds the clip "Added clip from intro video (3.0s to 8.0s) at the end of your timeline."
