Clip Speed

You can speed up or slow down any clip on your timeline. This works with all clip types -- video clips, SVG clips, and audio clips.

Changing Speed by Conversation

Tell StarZero Agents what speed you want:

  • "Slow down the second clip to half speed"
  • "Speed up the intro clip to 2x"
  • "Set the third clip to 0.5x speed"
  • "Make the b-roll play at 4x speed"
  • "Speed up that timelapse clip to 12x"

The speed range is 0.25x (quarter speed) to 12x (twelve times normal speed). When you change a clip's speed, the clip's duration on the timeline adjusts automatically -- a 10-second clip at 2x speed becomes 5 seconds on the timeline, while the same clip at 0.5x takes 20 seconds.

How Speed Affects Your Project

  • Timeline duration updates automatically to reflect the new playback speed
  • Keyframe animations stay in sync -- if you've added pan or zoom keyframes, they adjust to match the new speed
  • Linked audio and overlay clips are updated when the parent clip's speed changes, so everything stays aligned
  • Trimming still works the same way -- you can trim a sped-up or slowed-down clip just like any other

Preview Playback and Sped-Up Clips

When your timeline contains clips faster than the editor's preview rate, the playback speed button locks to 1x. This keeps the preview accurate — the sped-up clips still play at their correct speed in the editor and in your final render.

What's Not Supported

  • Reverse playback -- clips always play forward
  • Time ramping -- each clip has a single, constant speed; you can't vary the speed within one clip
  • Audio pitch correction -- when you slow down or speed up a clip with audio, the pitch changes with the speed (no independent pitch adjustment)

If you need reverse playback or time ramping, export your project to Premiere Pro and apply those effects there.
