Reordering, Splitting, and Removing Clips

Once you have clips on your timeline, you'll often want to rearrange them, break them apart, or remove the ones that don't fit. Here's everything you can do to reshape your project.

Moving Clips

Change the order of clips to tell your story the way you want:

• "Move clip 3 to the start of the project"
• "Move the last clip to position 2"
• "Swap the first and third clips"
• "Put the interview after the introduction"

In the visual editor: Click a video clip to select it, then use the move arrows that appear just outside its left and right edges to step it one position at a time. The other clips shift to make room as it moves, and the arrow stays in view so you can keep nudging the clip along. The left arrow is disabled when the clip is already first, and the right arrow when it's already last.

Splitting Clips

Sometimes a single clip contains two distinct moments, and you want to treat them separately. Splitting divides one clip into two at a specific point:

• "Split the second clip at the 5-second mark"
• "Split this clip where the speaker changes topic"

After splitting, each half becomes its own independent clip that you can move, trim, or remove separately. Any audio or overlay clips linked to the original clip are handled automatically — if they fall entirely in one half they stay linked to that half, and if they span the split point they're split to match. Keyframe animations are preserved across the split — both halves keep the motion as you designed it, so the animation looks the same as before.

In the visual editor: Position the playhead where you want to split, then click the scissors icon in the playhead controls or press K.

Merging Clips

If you have two adjacent clips that originally came from the same source video, you can combine them back into one:

• "Merge the third and fourth clips"
• "Combine these two clips into one"

This is useful if you previously split a clip and want to undo that split, or if you added two consecutive segments from the same video and want to treat them as one piece. Any audio or overlay clips linked to the merged clips are automatically re-linked to the new combined clip and repositioned to stay in sync.

Removing Clips

Take clips out of your project when they don't fit:

• "Remove the third clip"
• "Delete the third and fourth clips"
• "Keep only clips 1, 2, and 5"
• "Remove everything after the interview segment"

Removing a clip from your project doesn't affect the original video in your library. You can always add it back later.

In the visual editor: Right-click a clip and choose the delete option, or select a clip and press the delete key.

Replacing Clips

Swap one clip for another without changing the project structure:

• "Replace the first clip with one showing a yellow car"
• "Swap out the opening clip for the alternative take"

Duplicating Clips

Use the same clip more than once in your project:

• "Duplicate the intro clip and put a copy at the end"
• "Use the logo animation again after the third clip"

In the visual editor: Right-click a clip and choose the duplicate option.

Combining Multiple Operations

You can ask for several changes at once:

• "Remove clips 2 and 4, then move clip 5 to the beginning"
• "Split the long clip at 10 seconds, remove the first half, and move the rest to position 3"
